I am a big fan of Connor Kenway. He is one of my favorite assassins and I think he has one of the best stories in the franchise that encapsulates the order’s struggles. Lauren and I had already photographed this costume in the past, but that was during the fall, and we wanted to get out and do a winter photoshoot. So we headed off to the nearby forest preserve as soon as we had an opportunity.
And it was cold. We didn’t even realize how cold it was until after the shoot when we saw that the temperature was 15 degrees Fahrenheit. I only had some nylon gloves, but Lauren came to my rescue when about five minutes into the shoot my hands were freezing cold and unable to function and she gave me her gloves.
But while the cold presented some issues – especially how much time we wanted to shoot – I never got too cold once I had the gloves on. And that speaks to how thick the fabrics are on this costume. I mean that was it – besides a thermal shirt and heat retaining compression pants, and a knit ski hat, I only had the costume to protect me. But on the flip side, think how warm you would be in the summer…
By and large, most of the costume you see in the photos is what you can get from Cosplay Magic. It is not perfect, but it is really good. The fabrics are awesome, but it is missing a few pieces like the weaponry. The items we added to it for this shoot were: different “beaded” arm-bands, the Spirit Halloween bow and baldric, Amnra’s Hidden Blade, real Moccasins (that my brother-in-law made), and the tomahawk.
I think we got some amazing photos. It was a lot of fun to run around in the snow with Lauren and try to find new and exciting spots to photograph in. She has a great eye for composition and she did a wonderful job capturing this costume in action.
